Project Assata Presented by the Bandung Duo
Named after the historic 1955 Bandung Conference in Indonesia, which united 29 nations across Africa and Asia to foster political solidarity and action, Bandung Duo is founded on principles of scientific socialism and the core belief in art as an inherently community-based project. Our creative strategy combines interdisciplinary collaboration, educational outreach, artistic commissions, and mutual aid for the community.
"PROJECT ASSATA" is a manifestation of this mission. Through three musical commissions, two visual arts commissions, and one visual art contribution, this artistic endeavor explores BIPOC artists’ responses to Shakur’s legacy with the Black Panther Party and Black Liberation Army, as well as her impact on our respective communities’ work in change-making.
This project serves as an active, long-term investment into our work: all commissioned art will be integrated into revolutionary, historically accurate, and culturally relevant educational programs, which we will present at schools and community organizations, and perform at fundraising concerts for local and international mutual aid initiatives.
PSYCHOSPHERE Exhibition
Join us for an artistic inquiry into collective consciousness: a gallery exhibition featuring the work of over twenty artists, with performances on May 30th. PSYCHOSPHERE explores the psychic communion of all beings: the mythological motifs, collective images, and cerebral webs of communal sentiment.
We lean into the whole, the communal: the particles and waves that connect us all in creative spirit
Rooted Exhibition
The Kota Alliance and WHAA are proud to present ROOTED—a group exhibition exploring the visible and invisible roots that shape who we are, and the ones we choose to plant in the world.
The exhibition features the work of 36 incredibly talented and unique women-identified artists.
What does it mean to be rooted?
For some, it is cultural, ancestral, or spiritual. For others, it is found in stories passed down, traditions reclaimed, or the bold new seeds planted in art, family, and community.
ROOTED is a centerpiece of our Spring 2026 programming, a season dedicated to heritage, storytelling, and rising from strong foundations. We invite you to join us for an evening of art, connection, and reflection as we let these roots speak and witness what grows from them.
